The job

When an eighth year associate left, the firm did not replace them and used Legion, a litigation drafting platform, to produce first drafts of complaints and other filings, which the lawyers then edit.

Tool: Legion

What happened

Staffing costs fell 27% and profits rose after the firm used AI drafting instead of replacing a departing associate.

The managing partner says drafting a complaint fell from two days to about two and a half hours. Referrals rose and the firm can now take smaller matters it used to turn away.

Before you believe it

The figures come from the managing partner in a legal trade press article, not from accounts. Every draft is edited by a lawyer, and the article stresses AI does not argue motions or spot issues in depositions.
