The job

The firm turned on Xero auto-reconciliation, powered by JAX, across a cross-section of client files and tested it for up to ten weeks, keeping it on for simpler clients and switching it off per account where transfers and intercompany activity caused errors.

Tool: Xero JAX

What happened

On one simple client file, 69 of 116 transactions were auto-reconciled in 30 days with no errors flagged.

A second tester auto-reconciled 26 of 39 transactions on a subscriptions based client, a 67% rate. The team found a timing problem where receipts arrive after the bank line, which forces the entry to be undone and matched by hand.

Before you believe it

This is the firm reporting its own test on its own site, and the results varied widely by client. On complex files the team had to remove and redo work every week, so the 60% rate applies to a simple, repeating transaction client only. Turn it on per bank account, not across every file.

Here is a list of bank transactions for a client: [TRANSACTIONS], with the coding used for the same suppliers last month: [LAST MONTH]. Code each transaction, mark the ones you are not sure about, and list any that look like transfers between the client own accounts.
